PediGlide Aims to Completely Disrupt Sedentary Sitting
Revolutionary Product Will Be the First to Keep Your Legs Active While Sitting Anywhere
Seattle, WA - The PediGlide launched its Kickstarter campaign on January 4th, 2016 on its path to be the ultimate sedentary sitting solution. This product aims to negate some of the negative health effects that come from long periods of sedentary sitting.
The average working person sits still for over eight hours a day. According to PediGlide CEO Dylan Munn, these people find themselves sitting during long commutes before and after their standard work shift, and they often end up sitting down once they get home. This is not including non-routine events such as air travel, which can involve sitting for equally long periods of time without an opportunity to keep the legs active.
An article published in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute in 2014 found that this much sedentary sitting is associated with a 24 percent increased risk of colon cancer, a 32 percent increased risk of endometrial cancer and 21 percent increased risk of lung cancer. Furthermore, the Mayo Clinic has reported that those who sit for extended periods of time have around a 125 percent increased risk of events associated with cardiovascular disease.
When these findings are coupled with the fact that only 25 percent of people get the recommended amount of daily exercise to live a healthy lifestyle. A survey by CareerBuilder even found that the number one cause of office weight gain is workers sitting still at their desks for far too long. Adding all of these factors together and it becomes clear that sedentary sitting is a disease that is damaging many people every year.
PediGlide and Sedentary Sitting
The PediGlide started out as a relatively simple model made from wooden dowels and doorstops, but the company has partnered with one of the leading product development firms in the Pacific Northwest to create a new product that puts the user experience first.
The basic concept of the PediGlide is not technically new in that it sits underneath a desk and gives the user a chance to keep their legs active while sitting. However, similar products have proved to be impractical in many situations. They do not fit under many desks, they aren't mobile, they sometimes require corporate approval and can cost thousands of dollars. The PediGlide is much lighter, 2 – 30 times more affordable, and its versatility allows it to be used practically anywhere; at the office, home, in a car, air plane.
Funds raised through PediGlide's Kickstarter will be used to create educational programs on the dangers of sedentary sitting as well as studying the health benefits of keeping one's legs active throughout the day.
