Studies show the danger of a sedentary lifestyle
The National Cancer Institute found that sedentary sitting is associated with:
- 24% increased risk of colon cancer
- 32% increased risk of endometrial cancer
- 21% increased risk of lung cancer.
The Mayo Clinic reinforced the concerns of sedentary sitting when they found that those who sat for long periods of time had a 125% increased risk of events associated with cardiovascular disease, such as chest pain or heart attack.
